Real Horror, and What You Can Do About It.

As many of you are aware, Haiti suffered from a devastating earth quake yesterday, thousands are feared dead, and many have been injured by the quake that registered 7.0 on the Richter scale.

So why am I posting this on a blog about horror films?  Because I thought it might be a good idea if we all took a second from our busy lives and spared a thought about how we might help an already impoverished nation, dig itself out of a horror that is much more terrifying than anything dreamt up for the silver screen.

Remember that money you were going to drop on the blu ray editon  of Rob Zombie's H2?  Maybe it's time to forgo the dubious pleasure of yet another purchase that will only end up shoved in a book case and forgotten in a few months.

Dig into your pockets today and spend some money on something that really counts.  You can donate to any of the following agencies (Doctors Without Borders is my personal favorite) and designate that your funds go to the Haitian Relief Fund.  And when you are all through, you can celebrate the fact that you actually did something worthwhile.

Come on, Horror Movie Fans, let's do it! (CLICK ON ANY LINK TO MAKE A DONATION)

I live in China in Yunnan Province which border Si Chuan, where the devastating quake hit abut a year and a half ago. My wife Ivy and I went up there for a week to do some volunteer work but foreigners were not allowed access to the worst hit areas for various reasons, safety being a main one and not seeing things and reporting them was another.

I did not see the worst of things or any dead bodies but saw people in a camp trying to deal with things we cannot image. Many still are in terms of loss and govt bureaucracies and corruption. Lots of money sent here never reached the people who need it.

We worked with some little children who were amazing. I suffered from the Si Chuan heat and lack of sleep and not knowing the language enough to really help but my wife (who is Chinese) was super.

I do not know if we really helped anyone in the big picture but when we left the little kids were crying and followed us as far as they could.

It is a terrible thing and if anyone can actually go and help out with your face and words it can change your life.
